Au Ver a Soie metallic threads

Au Ver a Soie has been making embroidery threads in France since 1820, and its metallics are used in ateliers where the finish has to survive both close inspection and years of wear.

What makes them different

The metallic filament is wound over a soft core, so the thread stays supple instead of springing back out of the stitch. It passes through fine fabrics without shredding, which matters when the same length is pulled through dozens of times.

Using metallic thread

Work with short lengths, a needle one size larger than usual, and let the thread untwist from time to time. For couching, lay the metallic on the surface and hold it with a fine silk or cotton thread in a matching shade.
