Fabrics for embroidery

The ground fabric decides how an embroidery behaves. It has to hold beads and purl without sagging, stay taut in a frame for weeks and, in Luneville work, let you see the hook coming through from the other side.

Silk organza and other grounds

Silk organza is the classic choice for tambour and couture embroidery: light, translucent and surprisingly strong, so a dense design does not distort it. Alongside it we keep nets, tulle and other fine grounds used for appliques, samplers and dimensional work.

Working with them

Mount the fabric on a slate frame or a hoop and keep the tension even – most problems with puckering start here, not with the stitching. Cut generously: a 5-10 cm margin around the design gives room to frame and to finish the piece.

Ordering and delivery

We ship worldwide from Lithuania (EU). Delivery usually takes 1-3 working days in the Baltics, 5-10 working days in Europe, the UK and the USA, and 5-15 working days to other countries.
