“Rayon” was previously known as artificial silk. 1934 July 8 By a law passed in France, it ceased to be called artificial silk at the request of natural silk producers to avoid confusion.
In reality, this “artificial silk” has nothing in common with real silk, except for its appearance. In the industry, it is also known as filament viscose. It is made from wood pulp, making it a man-made fiber, but not synthetic (petroleum-based fibers).
It is a lightly twisted thread with a beautiful sheen and properties similar to cotton—it is not very elastic, and the same dyes are used for both.
